Things get exciting

May 1, 2010

So, it looks as though we are finally in spring here in France!  I have started my veggie garden, the cherry trees have already bloomed and lost their flowers, the quince and apple trees are just now in bloom.  It feels like things are finally starting to get exciting after the long, long winter we just went through.  (Although this winter was exciting for us as we did have our first baby and all, it was still ong and it has been oh so nice to be outside working on the yard some, and even just sitting in the sun!)

The only bad thing currently on the horizon is the fact that my comptuer, an Apple, seems to have gone kaput.  It seems to boot up, but alas no screen!  I am taking it into the Genius Bar at the new Apple store in Paris; so please, if you don’t mind cross your fingers that they can fix it, and especially that I don’t lose all of my pictures.  Silly, silly me hasn’t backed up ANY pictures of the baby so they are all stuck on that computer!  Oh, and take this as a lesson to back your stuff up OFTEN.  I am even thinking if they can fix it of buying one of those Time Capsule things to back up wirelessly at least once a week.  I think if I lose all of my photos, I will be depressed for months!  Especially since I kind of abandonded my 365 project, if only I had kept on going I would have at least all of those photos!

So, more exciting things to come since I now have a little more content to blog about…  My veggies!  If only I knew how much fun this really is, I would have started it a long time ago, going out every morning to see if things have grown a little, watering them, it is all a ton of fun, and exciting.  I can’t wait to eat a meal with all of our own produce!  And I am now thinking about trying to convince MrB to let us get some chickens…  Although I have not a lot of hope of really truely getting him to think it is a good idea, but you never know.  He was even out there weeding yesterday…

So more to come soon, and I am thinking good thoughts about my computer!  For something that cost like 2000 dollars, I hope to get more then 2.5 years of life out of it; and I sure hope it hasn’t eaten all of my stuff!

I have the same fear! I’ve just decided to be good about printing out my favorites and putting them in albums. It finally seems to be paying off as Ella, who is now 5, has discovered the photo albums and LOVES looking through them. Of course, right now I have about 500 photos spread out over my dining room table waiting to be stuck in a book. I don’t want to think about how many hours that is going to take me…

I got my computer back, and you can bet I am going to back up tonight! And send off an order for more photos asap! AND, I am thinking about investing a nice wad of cash in a back up thingy called Drobo. They seem to be really neat and easily expandable. Plus your stuff is backed up on 4 HD’s, so virtually zero risk of losing something forever! I am going to do albums as well, I guess I am not sure if I want to do like scrapbooks, or just albums or even like Blurb books, you know one for months 1-6, one for months 7-12 and then one per year… Decisions, decisions!

I am finally catching up on your blog. Your garden sounds delightful! And I definitely recommend chickens. I have years of experience with them so if you have any questions, feel free to ask! There is nothing better than fresh eggs. And certain breeds are very sweet and gentle (while others will try to peck your freckles off till you bleed!). You’ll get an egg a day from each hen. The only problem is proofing their hutches/houses against rats who are drawn to the food. That can be a challenge!
