Cold Water

December 8, 2008

Today, our water heater, which also runs the radiators, died.  The good news in all of this is that apparently it is a 300 euro part that we need to buy and have installed and it will work.  The other possibility would have been to replace the whole thing, which would have cost about 10 times more.

The bad news, is that this means sponge bathing, or boilings a million liters of water and dumping them into the bathtub to get clean…  It is hard work.  And my favorite thing to do at the end of the day, is to slip into a hot bath.  So, tonight I boiled water like there was no tomorrow and took a lukewarm bath.  The good side of things is that since we have yet to turn on the radiators, that part dosen’t really bother us. And hopefully that awful groaning noise that the chaudiere made when we turned it on will stop once it is fixed…

It does kind of make me realise how lucky we are in our day and age…  Want hot water?  Just flick on the tap and let it run!

We have some friends that live about a half an hour away, and I am thinking that tomorrow we might go over there to take a shower!  Even after one day without a shower it will feel like a luxury!
